Toward High-Throughput, On-Chip Fluorescence Microscopy
OPN gets a project update from Niels Verellen, a physicist at imec who’s designing a chip-scale microscope that could find applications in high-throughput gene sequencing and other areas.
Fluorescence microscopy has allowed amazing views of the tiniest phenomena of life—but the microscopes themselves can be bulky, expensive and finicky. For that reason, some researchers are looking at ways to bring these microscopes to the chip scale. Such designs could ultimately allow compact devices that integrate multiple functionalities at a fraction of the cost of standard microscopes.
