This volume belongs to the IOP series, “Coherent Sources, Quantum Fundamentals and Applications,” which has reached eight published titles so far. This second edition features about 20% new material and contributions from six distinguished authors active in the field and the editor F.J. Duarte, who either authored or coauthored 12 out of the 16 chapters in the book. The book offers an updated overview of modern organic sources—mainly dye lasers.
The first 12 chapters develop the physics and design of organic dye lasers, including a theoretical treatment of tunable narrow-line sources and a description of best performances of organic lasers. The final four chapters treat organic photonics, organic dyes in optogenetics, applications in biology and medicine and a digression on organic sources for quantum entanglement and quantum coherence. Backed by well-chosen illustrations and by an exhaustive bibliography at the end of each chapter, the book is an invaluable guide for dye lasers and photonic organic materials for physicists and engineers.
