Biomedical optics is a developing interdisciplinary field that deals with the application of optical science and technology to biological and biomedical problems. This textbook provides a broad survey of the field and covers the basics in a remarkably clear and easy to understand style. The authors have used the fundamental principles of physical science to describe subject matter and a quantitative approach for their applications.
The book is divided into four parts. The first begins with the underpinnings for the field. The second provides and in-depth description of various spectroscopic techniques in the sub-diffuse regime. Subsequent chapters cover the theoretical formalisms and measurement methods for light transport in the diffuse regime, imaging techniques, optical tweezers and laser-tissue interactions. Each chapter has problem sets with answers, and a bibliography. I highly recommend this textbook for upper-level undergraduate courses as well as more advanced graduate-level courses on biomedical optics. The book would also be useful for students of the biological sciences and as a reference resource for researchers in biomedical optics.
