The UNESCO International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ) kicked off with a celebration in Paris, France, from 4 to 5 February. More than 800 researchers, policymakers, industry representatives and scientists gathered to mark the start of IYQ, which aims to spread the word about the continued growth and importance of quantum science. Optica was represented by President James Kafka, 2024 President Gerd Leuchs, George Bayz, Gisele Bennett, Sir Peter Knight, Chiara Macchiavello, Kae Nemoto and Gabrielle Thomas. The event included talks from Nobel Laureates Alain Aspect, Serge Haroche, Anne L’Huillier and William Phillips, as well as roundtables, panels, and an art exhibition and musical performance.
