Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Don’t let an ineffective introduction deter readers from appreciating your research—reel them in from the very first paragraph.

First impressions matter. On a blind date, armed with only a few bullet points of background information, two strangers spend a little time together to see if there is a spark of interest. In many ways, it’s the same with your readers when they encounter your research paper. They see the title, which sparks their interest to read the abstract, then maybe the introduction, then possibly the whole paper.
