Optical Computing: 1986 vs. 2016

During this OSA Centennial year, many members and staff are looking back at past publications, discoveries and events. For this month, we at OPN looked into our own archives to see what our contributors were up to 30 years ago. Interestingly, we found a whole issue dedicated to optical computing—the topic of this month’s second feature article, “Optical Computing: Past and Future” on page 32. Even more surprising, two of the articles in the April 1986 issue were written by this month’s feature authors, Ravi Athale and Demetri Psaltis!
