President's Message
Bucksbaum visits Ie Jima, Okinawa.
I just returned from the island of Okinawa, Japan, where I attended the 2014 International Conference on Ultrafast Phenomena. The Optical Society (OSA) provided technical support for the meeting, which was interrupted this year by the unplanned arrival of Typhoon Neoguri. The wind and rain shut the airport and also the conference activities for a day—but they didn’t dampen the enthusiasm for optical science that had brought us together.
