Akhlesh Lakhtakia details his journey to the hub of the most sparsely populated country in the world.

With the help of an OSA Fellow travel grant, I had the opportunity to visit Mongolia in late 2012. This landlocked country in East and Central Asia is bordered by Russia to the North and China to the South. I arrived in the outskirts of the capital—Ulan Bator—and was joined by my host Chimed Ganzorig, the vice president for research and innovation at the National University of Mongolia (NUM).
