High-Performance Sensing Using Fiber Lasers
Fiber laser sensors are capable of achieving fundamentally limited strain resolution. Their high sensitivity per unit length enables new sensing possibilities, miniaturization of existing sensors and simplification of sensing mechanisms.
In the domain of sensing, fiber optic devices offer a number of advantages over conventional sensors. Their immunity to electromagnetic interference, multiplexing flexibility and low weight all contribute to their attractiveness. For underwater sensing systems, they offer high reliability due to the absence of electrical components—which can reduce lifetime operating costs.
