Optical Signal Processing Based on All-Optical Analog-to-Digital Conversion
The nonlinearity of optical fiber provides attractive functionalities for all-optical signal processing. Recently, researchers have extensively studied all-optical analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters in an effort to surpass the inherently limited operating speed of these devices’ electronic counterparts.
Analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and digital-to-analog converters (DACs) provide an indispensable bridge between the physical world in which we live and the virtual world where data are transmitted, stored and processed efficiently and with few distortions.
