This year, the European Physical Society, Quantum Electronics and Optics Division, awarded Moti Segev (Technion, Israel) and colleague Anton Zeilinger(Univ. Vienna, Austria) with the biannual European Quantum Electronics award. Segev is widely recognized as a world leader in the area of optical spatial solitons. His research team has conducted pioneering experiments on interactions between non-Kerr solitons, including soliton spiraling, fusion, interactions between vector solitons, etc. More recently, Segev’s and Demetri Christodoulides’s groups (CREOL) demonstrated a powerful optical induction technique for making nonlinear photonic lattices. Segev is an OSA Fellow and topical editor of Optics Letters.
