Optics at the U.S. Naval Academy

Optics is still alive and healthy at the U.S. Naval Academy, where 100 years ago Albert A. Michelson performed the first in a series of optical experiments of remarkable accuracy. In the centennial year of the publication of Michelson's paper, "On a Method of Measuring the Velocity of Light,"1 John R. Smithson of the physics department treated us to a tour of the Academy's facilities and an inspection of the Michelson memorabilia displayed there.
